Introducing PMF MatchPoint Studio 2.0: Your Collection. Your Research Workspace.

Document. Compare. Research. Preserve.

What started as a personal search for a better way to organize sports memorabilia has evolved into something much bigger.

PhotoMatchForensics is proud to introduce PMF MatchPoint Studio 2.0, a free Windows desktop application designed for private collectors who want to do more than simply store photographs of their jerseys.

Version 2.0 transforms the original photomatching application into a comprehensive workspace for collection management, provenance documentation, historical research, visual evidence analysis and structured PDF reporting.

Whether you collect game-worn basketball jerseys, football shirts, baseball memorabilia or other sporting artifacts, MatchPoint Studio provides tools to organize both the objects and the research behind them.

One application. Your collection. Your evidence. Your research.

Why I Created MatchPoint Studio

As the founder of PhotoMatchForensics, I have spent years collecting original game-worn sports memorabilia and researching the stories behind individual items.

Over time, my collection became more than a series of jerseys hanging in a closet.

Each item had photographs, acquisition records, historical information, reference images, provenance documents and sometimes multiple photomatch investigations.

Like many collectors, I initially shared photographs through Instagram and Facebook.

But I eventually realized that social media was not enough.

Posts disappeared into timelines. Documents were stored in different folders. Reference photographs became separated from their research notes.

And when I wanted to revisit an investigation months or years later, reconstructing the complete research process was unnecessarily difficult.

I began looking for software that could manage everything in one place.

Something that combined a collection database with serious photographic comparison tools, evidence documentation and research reports.

When I could not find an application that fully matched the way I wanted to work, I decided to create one myself.

That idea became PMF MatchPoint Studio.

From Version 1 to Version 2.0

The original MatchPoint Studio focused primarily on photomatching: comparing physical memorabilia with historical photographs and documenting corresponding or conflicting visual characteristics.

It provided the foundation for organizing comparison images, marking evidence and recording research conclusions.

But as the application developed, one question became increasingly important:

Why should the photomatch investigation be separated from the item it belongs to?

Version 2.0 answers that question.

Rather than treating each comparison as an isolated project, MatchPoint Studio now connects collection records, provenance, historical references, physical characteristics and research cases within one local application.

The result is a substantially expanded workspace designed around the complete documentation process.

1. My Collection: Your Digital Memorabilia Archive

One of the biggest additions in Version 2.0 is the new My Collection module.

Collectors can create individual records for their memorabilia, including:

  • Sport, category and item type
  • Player, team and season information
  • Jersey numbers and item identifiers
  • Acquisition dates and purchase information
  • Item photography and supporting documents
  • Estimated values and currencies
  • Provenance and ownership information
  • Research activity and associated investigations

Instead of maintaining separate spreadsheets, folders and notes, the collector can build a structured record around each individual item.

The application also provides collection statistics, including item values organized separately by currency, research coverage and documentation totals.

The objective is simple: preserve the complete history of each collectible, not just its photograph.

2. Provenance and Wear Analysis

A game-worn jersey is only as historically meaningful as the information that can be established about it.

Version 2.0 introduces dedicated tools for documenting the history and physical characteristics of an item.

Provenance Documentation

Collectors can record ownership history, acquisition sources, relevant dates and supporting documents.

For example, a jersey received directly from a player may have a different provenance history from an item purchased through an auction or another private collector.

Keeping these records together helps preserve information that might otherwise be lost over time.

Wear Analysis

The Wear Analysis module allows collectors to document individual physical characteristics, including:

  • Loose or irregular stitching
  • Repairs and alterations
  • Stains and visible wear
  • Fabric deformation
  • Damage or unusual construction details

Numbered observations can then become part of the item's wider research record.

Importantly, documenting wear does not automatically establish game use. Each characteristic must still be interpreted within the available evidence.

3. The Photomatching Workspace: Up to 750% Zoom

At the heart of MatchPoint Studio remains its photographic comparison system.

Version 2.0 supports side-by-side comparisons between photographs of a physical item and historical reference imagery.

Each research case can contain multiple Comparison Sets, allowing collectors to investigate different photographs, games, details or viewing angles.

Independent Image Control

Each image can be independently zoomed and repositioned, with magnification up to 750%.

This makes it easier to inspect small details such as threads, lettering positions, mesh perforations and stitching irregularities.

Saved image views help preserve the relevant areas of a comparison for later examination and reporting.

However, enlargement does not create additional photographic information. The quality of the original reference image remains essential.

Four Evidence Point Types

MatchPoint Studio allows researchers to classify their observations using four evidence categories:

  • Match: A corresponding visual characteristic.
  • Mismatch: A characteristic that conflicts with the proposed identification.
  • Observation: A relevant detail requiring documentation.
  • Unresolved: An observation that cannot currently be evaluated conclusively.

Evidence points can include descriptions and supporting assessments. The application uses color-coded markers and automatic gap-free numbering to maintain consistent documentation.

The Evidence Explorer provides an additional way to review the observations recorded across a research case.

MatchPoint Studio provides the tools to document evidence. It does not decide the conclusion for the researcher.

4. The Reference Library: Keeping Research Organized

Historical photographs are a fundamental part of photomatching.

But without proper documentation, it can become difficult to remember where an image originated, which game it depicts or how it relates to an investigation.

The new Reference Library helps organize reference imagery and associated source information.

Images can be connected to individual items and research workspaces, keeping historical material together with the relevant documentation.

Version 2.0 also includes research timelines, notes and findings, allowing collectors to preserve the reasoning behind their investigations.

This is particularly useful when an item is investigated across multiple games or when new reference photographs become available months or years later.

5. PDF Reports: Turn Research into Documentation

One of the most important functions of MatchPoint Studio is its ability to create structured PDF research reports.

Version 2.0 expands the reporting system to include:

  • Item details and supporting photography
  • Research information and documented findings
  • Annotated comparison photographs
  • Zoomed image views showing relevant evidence
  • Color-coded evidence tables
  • Descriptions and research conclusions
  • Report dates and automatic page numbering

For example, a comparison investigating a distinctive stitch can include the enlarged area from both photographs, allowing the reader to examine the characteristic more clearly.

Instead of producing a collection of disconnected screenshots, the researcher can preserve the investigation in a structured document.

These PDF files are user-generated research reports. They are not authentication certificates and are not automatically examined or approved by PhotoMatchForensics.

6. Statistics, Backup and Data Control

Version 2.0 introduces additional collection management tools intended to make long-term documentation easier.

The Statistics module provides an overview of collection records, research activity, evidence totals and documented values.

When items have values recorded in different currencies, the application keeps those currencies separate rather than combining them into an inaccurate total.

Collectors can also archive items, move them to Trash and restore them when necessary.

The application supports local backups and restoration, helping users preserve their collection database and research work.

Existing users of PMF MatchPoint Studio 1.0.7 can use the migration functionality to transfer supported data into Version 2.0.

Creating a backup before migration is recommended.

7. Local Research: Your Data Stays with You

Privacy and control were important considerations during development.

PMF MatchPoint Studio 2.0 operates as a local Windows desktop application.

There is no requirement to create an online account.

The application does not automatically upload collection records, photographs, cases or research reports to PhotoMatchForensics.com.

It also operates without advertising trackers, telemetry or automatic cloud synchronization.

Your private collection remains your private collection.

Users remain responsible for maintaining backups, respecting image rights and ensuring the accuracy of their research records.

8. Freeware for Collectors – Not an Authentication Service

One of the decisions behind MatchPoint Studio was to make it accessible to other collectors.

The software is therefore available free of charge for personal, non-commercial use.

It was created from my own collecting experience, and I wanted other hobby researchers to benefit from the same structured approach to documentation.

However, an important distinction must be made.

MatchPoint Studio is not an automated photomatching or authentication system.

It does not certify, appraise or independently authenticate sports memorabilia.

Evidence points, classifications and research conclusions are entered by the user.

Likewise, the generated PDF reports represent the user's own research documentation and must not be presented as official PhotoMatchForensics authentication certificates.

The purpose of the software is to help collectors work carefully, transparently and systematically — not to replace independent judgment.

From a Personal Hobby to a Shared Research Tool

When I first started collecting game-worn jerseys, I never imagined that my passion for basketball memorabilia would eventually lead to developing my own software.

My original goal was simply to keep my collection organized and understand the stories behind the items.

Over time, that interest developed into detailed photomatch investigations, the PhotoMatchForensics website, a structured research archive and a virtual museum.

MatchPoint Studio represents another step in that journey.

It combines the practical needs of private collectors with the research methods I have developed through documenting my own memorabilia.

And with Version 2.0, the application is no longer focused exclusively on photomatching.

It offers an integrated workspace for preserving the entire history of an item — from acquisition and provenance to physical characteristics, photographic evidence and final research conclusions.

A collection deserves more than a folder of photographs. A research project deserves more than disconnected notes.

PMF MatchPoint Studio 2.0 was created to bring those elements together.

Your Collection. Your Research. Your Evidence.

Document. Compare. Research. Preserve.
