PhotoMatchForensics approaches each item as an individual
research case.
The process begins with documentation of the physical item,
including manufacturer information, tagging, sizing,
customization, condition, wear characteristics, provenance
and other relevant details.
Available historical photographs and video material are then
examined for characteristics that can be compared with the
physical item. Potential identifying features are documented
individually rather than relying solely on the overall visual
appearance of the jersey.
Image resolution, camera angle, lighting, movement,
compression, obstruction and the visibility of the relevant
area can all affect the reliability of a comparison. For this
reason, PhotoMatchForensics distinguishes between different
levels of confidence and does not treat every visual
similarity as a definitive match.
