Historical Documentation

Story & Historical Context

The American Airlines Center opened in 2001 and became the new home of the Dallas Mavericks, replacing Reunion Arena as the franchise's primary venue. This hardwood floor section originates from the court used during the Mavericks' first eleven years at the American Airlines Center, a period that included some of the most important moments in franchise history. Led by Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas developed into one of the NBA's leading teams during the 2000s, reaching the NBA Finals in 2006 before achieving its greatest success five years later. In 2011, the Mavericks captured their first NBA championship, defeating the Miami Heat in six games. Nowitzki was named NBA Finals MVP, completing one of the most memorable championship runs in modern basketball history. The authenticated court's documented usage period, October 30, 2001, through October 26, 2012, includes the Mavericks' historic 2010–11 championship season. Manufactured by Horner Sports Flooring, this original maple hardwood section retains distinctive painted court markings and represents a physical connection to the basketball court on which the Mavericks played throughout this era. Following the court's retirement, sections were preserved and distributed as officially authenticated collectibles. This example is individually numbered 6168 of 7,500 and is accompanied by a Dallas Mavericks Certificate of Authenticity, verified under the name of former team President and CEO Terdema L. Ussery. For PhotoMatchForensics, this artifact represents a different form of game-used basketball memorabilia. Rather than a player-worn uniform, it preserves an actual piece of the playing surface associated with more than a decade of Dallas Mavericks basketball history, including the franchise's first NBA championship season.
