The Item

Robert Ferguson’s game-worn Hamburg Towers No. 14 jersey from the 2014–15 season, representing the club’s inaugural campaign in Germany’s ProA. The white jersey features black numbering and side detailing, the Hamburg Towers crest, K1X branding, and the 2. Basketball Bundesliga logo. Across the chest, “MORE THAN BASKETBALL” captures the identity of the emerging club, while the reverse displays FERGUSON above the large number 14. Ferguson signed the front in black marker, adding his number and the explicit inscription “Game Worn Jersey.” Acquired directly from Ferguson through a jersey exchange after a game, this piece retains a personal connection to its original wearer. An accompanying A4 document, headed “Hamburg Towers Game Worn Jerseys (Season 2014–2015),” includes a photograph of the exchange and records its game-worn status. Its provenance is supported by the direct exchange, the accompanying documentation, and the inscription on the jersey. A specific game attribution has not been established.

Story & Historical Context

Before Hamburg became an established name in Germany’s top division, there was a first roster, a first season, and a city discovering its new team. This Robert Ferguson jersey belongs to that opening chapter. The 2014–15 season marked the Hamburg Towers’ debut in the ProA. Under head coach Hamed Attarbashi, the newly assembled team reached the playoffs in its first campaign, laying an early sporting foundation for the club’s future. The words across this jersey—“MORE THAN BASKETBALL”—expressed an identity that extended beyond results, connecting professional basketball with community and youth development. Ferguson arrived from Karlsruhe in 2014 and immediately became an important part of that inaugural team. The American forward averaged 9.3 points in his first Hamburg season, helping the Towers reach the playoff quarterfinals. He would remain for three seasons and take on the captaincy from 2015–16, becoming a familiar figure during the club’s formative years. For me, this jersey also preserves a personal moment. I received it directly from Ferguson during a jersey exchange after a game. The accompanying A4 document includes a photograph of that exchange, preserving the occasion alongside the jersey itself. His signature and handwritten “Game Worn Jersey” inscription add another tangible connection between the player and the piece. Together, the jersey and its documentation preserve two intertwined stories: Ferguson’s place in the Towers’ first season and the moment his No. 14 entered my collection. A piece of Hamburg basketball history, kept with the record of how it changed hands.
