The Item
This official Adidas Slovenia national team jersey was game-issued to Zoran Dragić for the 2021 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Kaunas, Lithuania.
The jersey features Slovenia’s distinctive national-team color scheme and the angular graphic elements associated with the country’s mountainous landscape. The front carries the Slovenian federation crest, Adidas branding, national-team lettering and Dragić’s number 30. The reverse is personalized with “DRAGIC” above the matching number 30.
Manufactured to professional national-team specifications, the jersey displays the construction, materials and official applications prepared for international competition. Its player-specific name and number configuration distinguish it from a standard retail or supporter version.
The jersey is classified as game issued rather than game worn. It was prepared for Dragić’s use during the tournament but has not been conclusively documented as having been worn in competition. Consequently, no claim of game use or single-game attribution is made.
Its significance is derived from its player-specific preparation and direct association with the tournament in which Slovenia secured the first Olympic basketball qualification in the nation’s history.
Historical Documentation
Story & Historical Context
The 2021 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Kaunas represented one of the most important chapters in Slovenian basketball history. Although officially connected to the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the tournament was played from June 29 to July 4, 2021, at Žalgirio Arena in Lithuania. Six national teams competed in Kaunas, but only the tournament winner would receive a place at the Olympic Games.
Slovenia entered the competition under head coach Aleksander Sekulić with a talented roster built around Luka Dončić and experienced national-team players such as Zoran Dragić, Jaka Blažič, Vlatko Čančar, Klemen Prepelič, Edo Murić and Mike Tobey.
The Slovenian team dominated its preliminary group. It opened with a 118–68 victory over Angola, followed by a 112–77 win against Poland. Slovenia then defeated Venezuela 98–70 in the semifinal, setting up a decisive meeting with host nation Lithuania.
Zoran Dragić played in all four games and provided experience, defensive intensity and reliable secondary scoring. He recorded 16 points against Angola, 11 against Poland, 12 against Venezuela and nine in the final against Lithuania. Across the tournament, he averaged 12.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 48.6 percent from the field.
The final was played on July 4, 2021, in front of more than 11,500 spectators at Žalgirio Arena. Facing a Lithuanian team attempting to qualify on its home court, Slovenia produced a historic 96–85 victory. Dončić led the team with 31 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists, while Dragić contributed nine points and four rebounds. The victory gave independent Slovenia its first-ever qualification for the men’s Olympic basketball tournament.
Born in Ljubljana in 1989, Dragić is a 1.96-metre guard and forward known for his energy, physical defense and aggressive transition play. He made his senior national-team debut in 2011 and represented Slovenia at numerous EuroBasket tournaments, World Cups and qualifying competitions. His professional career has included high-level experience in Slovenia, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Germany and Lithuania, as well as time in the NBA with the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat.
Following their success in Kaunas, Slovenia continued its historic run at the Tokyo Olympics. The team defeated Argentina, Japan and Spain in the group phase before overcoming Germany in the quarterfinals. Dragić delivered one of his finest international performances against Germany, scoring 27 points on 11-of-13 shooting. Slovenia narrowly lost 90–89 to France in the semifinal and ultimately finished fourth after facing Australia in the bronze-medal game. Dragić averaged 12.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists across six Olympic appearances.
This number 30 jersey was prepared specifically for Dragić during the Kaunas qualifying campaign. While it is not documented as game worn, its game-issued status connects it directly to the Slovenian team’s historic journey toward its first Olympic appearance. It represents the moment Slovenia transformed from a leading European basketball nation into an Olympic participant for the first time.
