The Item

This complete K1X Hamburg Towers uniform, consisting of the game-worn jersey and matching shorts, was worn by Dutch guard Yannick Franke during the 2019–20 easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga season. The player-exclusive jersey carries Franke’s number 0 on the front and back, with “FRANKE” positioned above the large rear numeral. The design incorporates the Hamburg Towers identity, official Basketball Bundesliga branding and the original team and sponsor applications used during the club’s first season in Germany’s highest division. The matching shorts complete the original on-court uniform and feature the corresponding team colors, club graphics and sponsor branding. Keeping the jersey and shorts together as a complete player uniform adds considerably to the historical integrity of the set. The garments retain visible characteristics consistent with season use. This uniform is attributed to Franke’s 2019–20 campaign as a whole; it has not yet been conclusively assigned or photomatched to one specific game. Following the season, the founder of PhotoMatchForensics personally collected this uniform—together with several other team jerseys—from the Hamburg Towers’ official offices. This direct acquisition from the organization provides strong, documented team provenance.

Story & Historical Context

The 2019–20 season represented a major milestone in Hamburg Towers history. After winning the ProA championship and securing promotion in 2019, the club entered the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga for the first time. Head coach Mike Taylor was tasked with guiding a newly assembled roster through the organization’s historic debut at the highest level of German basketball. Yannick Franke joined Hamburg in the summer of 2019. The 1.96-metre Dutch shooting guard came from a distinguished basketball family and had already gained professional experience in the Netherlands and several other European leagues. Wearing the unusual number 0, the 23-year-old quickly became one of the Towers’ most productive offensive players. Franke appeared in all 20 of Hamburg’s Bundesliga games, including five starts, and averaged 13.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 0.9 steals in approximately 22 minutes per game. He converted 44.9 percent of his field-goal attempts and 84.3 percent of his free throws, establishing himself as one of the leading scorers on the first Bundesliga roster in club history. His defining performance came on December 6, 2019, in a dramatic road game against Basketball Löwen Braunschweig. Franke scored a season-high 28 points and helped the Towers secure a crucial 97–94 victory—the club’s second Bundesliga win. His scoring and composure at the free-throw line played a decisive role in one of the most memorable results of Hamburg’s difficult inaugural campaign. The Towers’ first Bundesliga season proved challenging. Competing against established top-flight organizations, Hamburg recorded three victories in 20 games and occupied the final position when regular competition was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic. The season was subsequently interrupted, bringing an unexpected end to the club’s first year in the BBL. Despite the difficult team record, the campaign remains an essential part of Towers history. It marked the organization’s arrival in Germany’s highest basketball division and laid the foundation for the significant progress achieved in subsequent seasons. Franke’s consistent scoring made him one of the bright spots of that historic first year. After the season, the founder of PhotoMatchForensics personally collected this complete uniform from the Hamburg Towers’ offices as part of a group of team-used jerseys. The acquisition directly from the organization establishes a clear and credible chain of provenance. Preserved as a complete game-worn jersey-and-shorts set, the uniform represents both Yannick Franke’s productive season in Hamburg and the Towers’ first steps as a Basketball Bundesliga club. It is a tangible artifact from one of the most important transitional seasons in the organization’s history.
