The Item
This white K1X Hamburg Towers jersey was game-worn by German guard Steffen Kiese during the first home playoff game in franchise history, played against s.Oliver Baskets Würzburg on April 6, 2015. It was worn in this game only.
The sleeveless jersey is constructed from lightweight white performance fabric and features black piping along the sides. The front displays the original Hamburg Towers crest, K1X branding, the German flag and Kiese’s black number 9. An official 2. Basketball Bundesliga patch is positioned on the upper chest, while the club slogan “MORE THAN BASKETBALL” appears prominently across the center.
The reverse carries “KIESE” above a large black number 9. The interior collar label identifies the jersey as a K1X “Play Hard” garment in size L. Kiese personally signed the front beneath the team slogan and added his number 9.
Although used in only one game, the jersey retains its original game presentation and light evidence consistent with on-court use. Its exact single-game attribution, player signature and direct post-game provenance distinguish it from a standard season-issued or retail jersey.
Historical Documentation
Story & Historical Context
The 2014–15 campaign was the inaugural professional season of the newly established Hamburg Towers. Entering the ProA with a wildcard and an entirely new roster under head coach Hamed Attarbashi, Hamburg immediately exceeded the expectations normally associated with a first-year organization. The Towers completed the regular season in eighth place with a 15–15 record and qualified for the playoffs in their debut campaign.
Steffen Kiese had joined Hamburg from VfL Stade and became one of the original players in the club’s history. The Oldenburg-born guard brought energy, determination and outside shooting to the backcourt. During the 2014–15 season, he averaged approximately 16 minutes and five points per game. His fearless playing style, strong work ethic and connection with the supporters helped make him a fan favourite.
By finishing eighth, the Towers were matched against regular-season champions s.Oliver Baskets Würzburg in the ProA quarterfinals. After opening the series on the road, Hamburg hosted its first playoff game at the Inselpark Arena on April 6, 2015. The Towers competed closely against the heavily favoured Würzburg team but were defeated 70–61. Würzburg ultimately won the best-of-five series 3–0.
Kiese wore this number 9 jersey exclusively during that historic first home playoff game. Immediately afterward, the founder of PhotoMatchForensics received it directly from Kiese through a personal jersey exchange. This direct post-game transfer provides an especially strong and uninterrupted provenance linking the garment to the player and the event.
Kiese subsequently signed the front of the jersey and added his number 9. Because the garment was worn in one game only, it represents a precisely attributable single-game artifact rather than a jersey circulated throughout the season. It documents the first home playoff appearance in Hamburg Towers history and preserves an important moment from the club’s foundational campaign.
Kiese remained with the Towers for a second season and completed 63 appearances for the organization before moving to cooperation partner SC Rist Wedel in 2016. His place on the original roster—and his popularity among the early Towers supporters—gives this jersey significance beyond the individual game: it is a surviving artifact from the moment a newly formed club reached the postseason at its first attempt.
