This black Hamburg Towers jersey was game-worn by team captain Will Barnes during the club’s inaugural 2014–15 season in the German ProA. Manufactured by K1X in size XL, the jersey is customized with Barnes’ surname across the upper back and his player number “44” on the front and reverse. The black body features contrasting white side piping and a white inner neckline accent. The front carries the original Hamburg Towers crest, the K1X manufacturer logo, the 2. Basketball Bundesliga patch and the number “44.” The club’s early “MORE THAN BASKETBALL” slogan is displayed prominently across the lower front. White “BARNES” lettering and the large number “44” appear on the reverse. During the Towers’ first season, no separate player-exclusive jersey construction was used. The same jersey model was available to supporters, allowing an identical garment to be exchanged without affecting the team’s uniform configuration. Before an away game, the founder of PhotoMatchForensics personally gave this jersey to Barnes so that it could be exchanged in the locker room for the jersey he wore during the game. A few days later, Barnes personally handed the game-worn jersey to the collector at Mr. Kebab, which served as a regular meeting place for Hamburg Towers players and associates at the time. He signed the front and added the inscription “GAME WORN JERSEY” together with his number “#44.” On the reverse, Barnes added the personalized dedication “For: Chris” and a further signature. The direct pre-game arrangement, locker-room exchange, subsequent personal handover and Barnes’ signed inscriptions establish an uninterrupted provenance trail from the player to the PhotoMatchForensics collection. The 2014–15 season marked the beginning of professional competition for the newly established Hamburg Towers. Created with the ambition of returning high-level basketball to Hamburg, the club entered Germany’s second-tier ProA and assembled the first playing roster in its history. Hamburg quickly developed a strong local following. The Towers completed their inaugural regular season with a 15–15 record and qualified for the playoffs in eighth place. Their first postseason campaign ended in the quarterfinals against the Würzburg Baskets, but reaching the playoffs during the club’s debut season provided an encouraging foundation for the organization’s future development. Will Barnes played a central role in that first Towers team. The American point guard served as team captain and led Hamburg in scoring, averaging 13.8 points per game and recording 387 points during the season. His leadership, scoring ability and responsibility as the primary backcourt player made him one of the defining figures of the club’s inaugural campaign. Born on May 2, 1988, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Barnes played college basketball at Tennessee Tech before completing his collegiate career at Lee University. During the 2012–13 season, he averaged 20 points per game for Lee and was named Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He began his professional career in Germany with the Paderborn Baskets, where he averaged 18.8 points per game in the 2013–14 ProA season, before joining the newly formed Hamburg Towers. The provenance of this jersey reflects the personal and accessible character of the Towers during their earliest period. Before one of the team’s away games, the founder of PhotoMatchForensics gave Barnes an identical jersey with the prior understanding that Barnes would exchange it in the locker room for his game-worn example. At that time, the team did not use a separate player-exclusive version, so the replacement garment was equivalent to the uniform model worn by the players.
